Sensor Data Acquisition: MIMTIS makes sensor data acquisition simple!

Sensor Data Acquisition is the sampling of the physical world through sensors to generate data, sometimes abbreviated DAQ or DAS, data acquisition typically involves acquisition of signals and waveforms and processing the signals to obtain desired information. The components of data acquisition systems include appropriate sensors that convert any measurement parameter to an electrical signal, which is acquired by data acquisition hardware as a reading.

For many applications, remote data acquisition is required because the sensors are mounted on remote assets ,where making a local physical connection with the sensor is impossible. Our M2M platform, MIMTIS, helps you to acquire data from sensors remotely in such scenarios.

Remote data acquisition begins with the measuring of a physical property of any asset i.e. a monitored parameter. This physical property could be the humidity, temperature, pressure, or other parameters. RTU (Remote Terminal Units) are used to send data from DAQ systems using various sensors,in the form of - strain gauge, temperature, displacement etc - this data is sent to a remote MIMTIS server for monitoring and analysis. MIMTIS can support a variety of sensors both digital and analog, and is only limited by the DAQ hardware chosen. Support for standard DAQ’s is provided and the system also allows for building support for DAQ not yet supported.

Once the data is acquired the RTU, utilize networks (wired or wireless) like WiFi, Zigbee, GPRS, LAN to send the data to the central server. The RTU can be configured to send the data at a configurable interval and sampling rate. Acquired data is analyzed, and stored on the central MIMTIS server. The data can be viewed using a rich graphical web based HMI or downloaded in the form of custom reports or raw data.

MIMTIS remote Sensor Data Acquisition systems consist of the following elements:

  • Monitored Unit (MU: The physical asset that you monitor e.g. a generator)
  • Sensors
  • DAQ (Data Acquisition System)
  • RTU (Remote Terminal Unit)
  • MIMTIS servers
  • Adapters (MIMTIS’ unique concept similar to device drivers, but installed on the server)
  • HMI (Human Machine Interface)

MIMTIS is based around these core set of modules that are well tested. These core modules coordinate with each other, enabling you to build sensor acquisition systems which are both flexible and robust. The flexible nature of these modules allows you to use the system in a plug and play manner. You can easily replace a hardware module with any different manufacture supported by the system, configure the system and it is ready for use without writing a single line of code. For hardware that is not supported out of the box, you can contact our technical team for adding support for the same. The HMI is required to view and analyze the data usually in the form of various graphs/charts/gauges to improve and develop the performance of the key areas and operational parameters of the asset under monitoring.

MIMTIS key benefits:

  • Helps you to cut data collection cost when your sensors are spread across large geographical area.
  • Helps you to remotely configure your sensors and also monitor assets.
  • Real time monitoring gives you instant data for instant control.
  • Increases productivity and reduce operating and maintenance cost using existing Internet and mobile technologies. Therefore, no need to build your own network infrastructure.
  • Provides varying levels of analysis for acquired data. E.g.
-Bird eye view of current status across all monitored assets
-Detailed view of current status of all monitored parameters for a particular asset
-Deep analysis for a particular parameter using time series charts

The bottom line is, MIMTIS platform gives you a communication gateway that allows flexibility to use existing and new sensors in the market. So just plug any sensor into the network, connect to the MIMTIS server and monitor your complete network of sensors. Our experts can help you not only in the selection of the right solution; but also in the right sensors for the application. The standard deliverable for the system is the full design, the engineering and testing of the solution to ensure to our customers the minimum amount of time to integrate, configure and operate the system.
